The difference between extra care and care-enabled at Holdenhurst

Holdenhurst is enabled for care, so the environment is set up to make care possible, but not compulsory.

Holdenhurst is our new scheme of 48 affordable, rental apartments offering ‘extra care’ sheltered housing. This means that you live independently, but with the option of taking additional services if you need them. This helps to future-proof your move, enabling you to stay in your own home for longer.

A care-enabled approach at Holdenhurst

Holdenhurst is a care-enabled development, which means that care can be brought in from outside providers should you need it. Traditionally, extra care means that your ‘landlord’ organises care for you onsite, but our approach leaves you free to take the services you choose to allow you to live active, fulfilling and happy lives.

The important thing is that Holdenhurst is enabled for care, so the environment is set up to make care possible, but not compulsory.

Living in a care-enabled home benefits any lifestyle

Choosing a care-enabled scheme benefits any lifestyle as you can move in at a younger age and live fully independently, or with some help around the home. It’s your choice! Schemes like Holdenhurst can be your forever home; accommodating any changes you would like to make to your lifestyle, perhaps as your needs change as you age.

About the apartments at Holdenhurst

Holdenhurst offers one and two bed apartments finished to a high standard. With homely surroundings and excellent facilities, you will be able to enjoy an active and fulfilling life. Each apartment is completely self-contained with its own front door, providing privacy and security.

All of the apartments are fitted with Paula Rosa kitchens, a range of appliances, are centrally heated and have a state-of-the-art Tunstall digital security and communications system with 24/7 coverage. All tenants have access to our landscaped shared garden, with seating and patio area. Some apartments also have access to a balcony or small patio area. In some cases, we may even be able to accommodate your beloved pet.

How our clear pricing will help you budget effectively

The monthly charge is set at an affordable level, which means Housing Benefit awards will cover all of the rent and some of the service element. The monthly charge includes the service of onsite staff, the maintenance and upkeep of the building, as well as a two-course cooked meal every day. As a not for profit organisation, Holdenhurst will reinvest any surplus income back into the services provided.

For self-funders not in receipt of housing benefit, we are confident that our pricing will give you peace of mind on two levels – you will know what your costs will be each month and the monthly charge will be affordable and not leave you short.

Supporting active, independent living

Holdenhurst is designed to be a supportive, vibrant and like-minded community with active, independent living at its heart. You can get involved as much or as little as you wish, with the freedom to live independently.

There is an onsite support team offering a range of services to make living a little easier – this might include apartment cleaning and laundry, help with shopping or accompanying to appointments. This list is not exhaustive and it will be for you to decide what you would like help with. We will always be clear about what might cost extra.

They can also help with online activities and finding local activities or hobbies to do. If it helps you stay active and social, we will do our best to support you. We are on hand to make life as interesting, varied and simple as possible.

As lovely as Holdenhurst is, tenants will be free to come and go as they please. You will be able to make use of the ample opportunities to get out and about and enjoy all that we have on the doorstep.
